Ganesha or Ganesh also called Ganapati is the elephant-headed Hindu god of beginnings.  He is the patron of intellectuals, bankers, scribes and authors.   He is known as "the removal of obstacles".  

His name means "Lord of the People" .  He is often depicted riding a bandicoot rat, which symbolizes Ganesha's ability to overcome anything to reach his goal.
